Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones
When we are using our words correctly, we can uplift those who are in need of it. Its kind of like having a cold drink of water on a hot day. It just refreshing and re-energizing. It refills a persons gas tank, when they are running low. Words can be really refreshing.
However, words can be really draining as well. Destructive words tear down another person. They hurt the other person. Kind of feels like the words slash them like a knife. Instead of providing refreshment, they bring despair. Unlike the popular kids saying, words can hurt people and they can hurt them pretty bad.
Pleasant words are rare compared to destructive words. Destructive words seem to flow much easier from us at times. Most of us have to work hard to have pleasant words come out first and foremost. As a parent it seems critical words come out easier than pleasant ones. I have to really focus on balancing critical words with uplifting, praise words. It is important to build our kids up. It is important to build others up. Work hard to filter out the critical words from your vocabulary.
Dear Jesus, I thank you for the pleasant words from others and Yourself. Lord, You are the best at giving us pleasant words, that restore and refresh us. Help us to use our words to build others up and not tear them down. Guard my mouth, I ask. Amen.
