To Tell The Truth

Proverbs 12:17,19,22
17 He who speaks truth tells what is right, But a false witness, deceit.
19 Truthful lips will be established forever, But a lying tongue is only for a moment.
22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal faithfully are His delight.

There is an old game show, which just came back on the air, called To Tell the Truth.  A panel of celebrity judges asks three contestants questions, trying find out which one is telling the truth and which of the two  are lying.  Sometimes it is easy to tell who is being truthful or not.  In real life it is the same way.  With some people it is really easy to figure out when they are lying, usually it is because they are talking.  In other words, everything they say is a lie.  Others are really crafty for a while, but the truth always has a way of coming out.  A lie only lasts so long.  God promises that a lie will at most only last for a moment.

God wants us to tell the truth.  Contrary to popular teaching, there is no such thing as a white lie.  A lie is a lie and God does not like it.  There are moments which we must tell the truth with grace, but none the less, we must tell the truth.  Jesus said that He is the truth.  God always tells the truth.  Everything about God is true.  There is no false ways in Him.  If we are to be followers of Jesus, we must be about the truth.  Jesus called Satan the Father of Lies.  When we lie we are following Satan rather than Jesus.  There is never a time where a lie is the right thing to do.  Now that being said there is a time for discretion and saying things with grace.  We should not be harsh in telling the truth, but we must tell the truth.

Dear God, help me to be honest.  Help me not to tell lies.  Help me to find the right words to say things to people, filled with grace.  Thank you for always being honest.  Thank you that You are the Truth and having no false ways.  You are so amazing Oh God!  Amen.
