Hate Evil

Proverbs 8:13 “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverted mouth, I hate.

Has anyone ever told you that hating is always wrong?  Well it is not.  Hating people is always wrong.  Hating evil acts is not.  God hates evil and so should we.  If we want to follow God, we must take on His characteristics.  One of those is hating evil and pride and arrogance.  They all go against the nature of God and how God wants us to act.

Chapter 8 of Proverbs focuses on wisdom.  Solomon tells us all of different things wisdom has done.  This verse says if you want to be wise, love God and love His ways.  A fool does not fear God.  A fool is prideful and arrogant.  A fool has a perverted mouth.  A fool loves the evil way.

Let’s be honest, we all have foolish moments.  I know I have stuff come out of my mouth and they later I realize how truly foolish I was.  I have had my moments where I have been prideful and arrogant.  We all have.  Solomon, one of the wisest men to ever have lived, died a fool following false Gods and their evil ways.  We must be humble, because it is possible for any of us to turn from God.  A humble heart knows the evil it is capable of and knows it needs God.  Humility helps us to fear God and live a proper life.  Pride is the downfall of many people.  Pride is like driving on the express way with no brakes, unable to stop your self from the impending disaster.  You are going 80 mph and traffic is at a standstill just ahead.  When we are prideful, we will fall and hurt ourselves and the people around us.  Humility allows to have a proper perspective and  adjust our ways in order to avoid a disaster.  It allows us to slow down and stop when need be.  It allows us to listen to God’s guidance and adjust our lives to His way.

Dear God, help me to humble before You.  Help me to hate what is evil and love what is good.  Your ways, Oh God are good.  Help to love Your ways and hate the evil ways.  Thank you for Your grace, when I mess up.  Amen.
