Parents, Teach Your Kids

Proverbs 6:20-22
20 My son, observe the commandment of your father And do not forsake the teaching of your mother; 21 Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck. 22 When you walk about, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.

A mom and a dad teach their kids a lot of things.  How to act, how to care of them self, how to interact with others, are but a few.  The most important thing a parent can teach their child is how to follow God.  We as parents, are to fill our kids heads with knowledge of the Almighty.  He commands us to do that.  To not only tell them about God and His law, but to bind into their hearts.  We need to help them memorize God’s Word.  We need to teach them to pray.  We need to fill them heads with Bible stories.

Some people might call this indoctrination.  They are correct.  The world is ready to fill our kids hearts and minds with ungodly things.  It is our job, as Christian parents, to fill them with God.  This is a battle we must wage and we must fight.  Kids are born knowing that there is a God.  The world fights hard to pull that knowledge out of them.  We as parents, need to fight back to keep that knowledge there and growing.  It is a big responsibility.  When the fathers of Israel stopped teaching their kids about the mighty things God had done, the people stopped following God and started following idols.  It is our responsibility to make sure that we do all that we can do to keep them from following idols.  It is time to fight for our kids!

Dear God, help me to be a good father.  Help me to teach my kids about You and Your greatness.  Help me to take advantage of every situation, so that they might learn about You.  Help me to instruct them properly.  Help me to be a good example for them.  Amen.
