Proverbs 3:3 Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Is it possible to balance kindness and truth? Some people believe you have to pick one extreme and go with that. Meaning, if your for the truth, you need to cold in your truthful telling, not caring about hurting a person’s feelings. Or if you are for kindness, you will let the truth slip in order not to hurt some bodies feelings. Neither extreme is right. We must find the right balance between kindness and truth.
Knowing how to say a truth is just as important as telling the truth. If we ignore a truth to protect some bodies feelings, we are not helping that person. If we just tell the person a truth harshly, we are not helping a person. We must always seek to tell the truth full of grace. Tell it in a such way that we consider, how somebodies feelings will be impacted. Some times this might mean we tell them a little bit of bad news at a time, so that they do not feel overwhelmed. God gives wisdom in that moment in order to do it. He will give us the words to say and the tone to use saying it.
Dear God, help me to balance kindness and truth. Help me to not fall to one extreme. Help me to be graceful in my words, in order that they may build others up. Help them to be encouraging and refreshing. May I not hide Your truths from others. Thank you for Your help in this. Amen.
