They Forgot

Psalm 106:21-22
21 They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt, 22 Wonders in the land of Ham And awesome things by the Red Sea

The people of Israel had been delivered, by God, out of Egypt, by great works.  God sent ten plagues, which pretty much destroyed all of Egypt.  Each plague was aimed at on the false Egyptian gods.  By doing this, He proved He was the one true God and that Israel was His chosen people.  God had miraculously delivered them out of bondage and was bringing them to the Promised Land.

But in the wilderness, in between Egypt and Promised Land, the people had a case of the forgetfulness.  They forgot what God had for them, not that long ago and started grumbling against Him.   They rebelled and sinned by making an idol.  They turned on Moses, who was leading them, by God’s direction.  God provided food for them and yet they complained.  How sad, right?  They witnessed God acting on their behalf.  Everyday they woke up to God’s provision.  They saw God provide water out of a rock.  And yet, they kept forgetting all that He had done for them.

Sadly, we are the same way.  We tend to forget God’s faithfulness, until we need Him.  We grumble and complain about what we do not have, only if we had this.  We forget what God has done for us, at times.  We need to start remembering, How great are God is.  We need to take time to count, all the ways that God has blessed us and is blessing us in the present.  We should read the tales of the Exodus, not judgmentally, but filled with caution.  We need to learn from their mistakes and not repeat them.

Do not forget, what God had done for you.  Rejoice and worship Him!

Dear God, help me to not forget all You have done.  Help me to count the ways you have provided and taken care of me and those around me.  Help me to learn the lesson, so that I may not repeat the mistakes of others.  Thank you for Your patience and Your amazing love.  Thank you for freeing me from the bondage of sin.  Help me to make go back to it, but to live freely.  Amen.
