In the Morning

Psalm 90:14 O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Today’s verse it not one that you typically hear on Easter, but by God’s providence I came to it in my daily reading.  I think it fits so well with that first Eater morning.

The morning on the first Easter was filled with hopelessness.  Jesus was dead.  Their long awaited Messiah, died without a fight.  Some women went to the tomb to finish preparing His body for burial.  Just one week ago, they were welcomed into the city, like He was the conquering King coming to reign.  One week later, so much seemed to have changed.  He was dead.  Now what?

But when the women got to the tomb, everything changed.  The tomb was empty.  He was not there.  He had risen just as He said.  They were now filled with hope and joy and gladness.  When they realized what had taken place, they were satisfied with God’s love that morning.  So much had changed in a week.  Jesus had died for their sins and ours says, paying the penalty that we owed.  No longer did sin have to reign in them, now Jesus could.  God’s wrath towards sin, for those who believe in Jesus, had been satisfied.  Many thought He was coming to defeat the Romans, instead He came to defeat Satan and sin.  Mission accomplished!

When Jesus saves you from your sin, every day is a new adventure with Him.  He is enough for us.  He satisfies the God shaped whole we have in our hearts and fills it with joy and gladness.

Oh Jesus, hope is alive once again, because You rose from death.  You defeated the power of sin and death!  Thank you, my King!  Fill me with Your joy and gladness.  Fill me with Your praise all day long.  Help me to be satisfied in You and You alone.  You are the best of the best.  Nobody compares to You, oh Jesus.  Come soon Jesus!  Amen
