God’s House

Psalm 84:1,10
1 How lovely are Your dwelling places, O LORD of hosts!
10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

The Psalmist loves the to be at God’s House.  He loves to spend time there.  If he could he would be there all of the time.  When he is not there, he cannot wait to get back.  Verse 2 says his heart yearns for it.  He loves to be there in the presence of God and of God’s people.

He asks the question in verse 1, ‘How lovely are Your dwelling places?’.  He answers it in verse 10.  He says that he rather be in the courtyard of God’s House, than be in the tent of the wicked.  He would rather stay in the yard than go in some fancy tent of those who do not love God.  Do you love God’s house that much?  Do you love being around the people of God that much?

God’s House is more than just a church building.  What makes it a special place is the believers who meet there, because Jesus said when two or three of you gather in My Name, I will be there (Matthew 18:20).  That is what makes a place special.  That is what makes a place God’s House.  It is better to live in the yard of a place where Jesus is, that to be some fancy place where He is not.  The building is not important, it is the presence of Jesus which is.

Dear God, I thank you for presence in our lives.  I thank you for Your Spirit, which is leading and guiding us.  I thank you for other believers, which we can gather with to worship You and live life together.  Your word says that is good for us to gather together in Your name.  Help us to keep doing that.  Clear away any reason to not do so.  Amen.
