Psalm 58:11 And men will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; Surely there is a God who judges on earth!”
Have you ever had the thought that certain people always get away with injustice? No matter what they do, nothing seems to stick them or get them in trouble? David is feeling that way in this Psalm. He is appealing to God, to punish the unrighteous and wicked. God put in our hearts a desire for justice. We like to see those who do bad things get caught and punished. We have a cry for justice in our hearts.
This cry works best when we want justice for other people, but not so much for us. I will not speak for you, but at times I act in wicked ways and sin. I have times in my life where my heart is filled with unrighteousness. The funny thing is, those are the times I seek mercy and grace for myself. Even though I said was not going to speak for you, I get a hunch that you are probably similar. David was similar. Here he is crying for God to judge the unrighteous, but in other Psalms we see David crying out to God to forgive him and cleanse him. He had the same struggle we do.
God will judge the wicked. It is going to happen, during their lifetime and more importantly for eternity. Do not miss this...we are all wicked in God’s eyes. Only one sin, makes us detestable to Him and makes Him consider us wicked. God hates sin and all of mankind are sinners. We all deserve eternal punishment in hell. Only Jesus lived a sinless life. And because of that and the fact He loves you so much, He was able to lay down His life as a sacrifice, to make atonement for our sins. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, all of our sins are forgiven (we still face the consequences of our sins on earth), so that when we stand at judgement time, God will not see the sin we committed. Instead, He will see the righteous life of Jesus. This is the only way to Heaven. Have you asked Jesus to save you? If not you are not ready to stand before the Holy Judge. Without Jesus, you will be condemned to hell. You have no case. Make today the day you ask Him to save you. Confess that you are a sinner and that you know that He is the only way to be saved. Ask Him to save you!
Dear God, You are the Holy Judge! Your judgments are true and fair. Jesus, I thank You for all that You did, so that I might be saved. I pray for those who contemplating asking You for salvation. I pray that today, at this moment they would call out to you and get saved. Please be working in their hearts. Thank you for all that You do and all the ways You take care of my family and me. Amen.
