Failure

Psalm 53:2-3
2 God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after God. 3 Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.

We have all failed God.  We have all turned away from Him at times acted corruptly.  As Romans says, “all have sinned”.  I do not know about you, but the way I define the word all, it includes everyone, both you and me.  God has examined all of us, none of us grade out well on God’s scale.  We all have failed Him.  We all deserve judgment for the life we have lived.  You know that person you always look down on and feel superior to?  You are no better than them.  We are stinky sinners deserving eternal punishment and torment in Hell!

That is the bad news, but the good news is that God has thrown us a life line.  Jesus came 2,000 years ago and lived a perfect life.  He is the only one who has done good.  He is the only one who is not corrupt and did not turn aside from God.  He lived a perfect, pure life.  And because of that, He was able to be the spotless, sacrificial lamb and to die to pay the penalty of our sins.  When we accept Jesus as our savior, as our redeemer, by faith, God imputes the righteous, Holy life of Christ into our lives.  Afterwards, He looks at our lives and does not see our sinful lives.  Instead He sees the perfect, Holy life of Christ.  That is the only way to be saved from Hell.  The only way to be saved from the eternal punishment we deserve.  Jesus is our only hope.  He offers this hope as a gift.  No money can pay for it, no good deeds can earn it.  It is a gift, but a gift which needs to be accepted.  An unaccepted gift is a waste.  Do not let God’s gift to you go to waste.

Have you accepted this gift?  If not, do so today.  The Bible says  that if we believe in ours hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus is who He says He is, we will be saved.  Pray to Him and ask Him to save you.  Tell Him you are a rotten sinner, who needs to be saved by Him.  Your life will not be the same!

Dear Jesus, thank you for making a way.  I was lost in my sin, until You came and found me and saved me.  I owe You everything.  Please be with those who read this, who do not know you.  Work in their hearts and bring them to you.  Amen.

Boasting in Evil

Psalm 52:1 Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The lovingkindness of God endures all day long.

Only fools boast in evil and this world is full of fools.  They think themselves to be so smart and yet they really know nothing.  They reject their creator and instead create their foolish story.  They create awards to give to themselves, telling us we should celebrate them.  They think they have all the right answers and are experts at all things, when we really they know very little.  They think they are better than everyone else, when really they are the most to be pitied.  The world is full of fools!

God’s way is not foolish.  It is tried and proven.  He is the creator of all things, over all things.  We all will answer to Him one day.  The fools dies, yet God lives.  God is all knowing.  He is so wise.  There is nothing He does not know.  Yet the fools mock Him and slander Him.  They do not know that one day they will stand before Him.  The fool has said in their heart that there is no God.  They constantly prove themselves to be foolish.

Do not be foolish.  Trust in God and believe in Him.  The world will perish, but God will not.  He stands forever!

Dear God, help me not to be foolish, but to trust in You.  Help me to only boast in You.  You are eternal, this world will pass away.  You are wise and this world is foolish. You are love, they are hate.  Thank you for all of this Lord.  Amen

Forgiveness

Psalm 51:1 Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions

David is writing soon after Nathan had confronted him.  He was caught in his sin, by committing adultery with Bathsheba and the cover up was even worse.  The cover up always makes things worse.  God wants us to confess our sins, right away.  By covering up, all we do is dig a deeper hole of sin.  Deal with your sin.

That is what David is doing in this Psalm, he is dealing with his sin.  Six different times, he begs God to cleanse him (Blot out, Wash, cleanse, purify, wash, blot out).  He asks God to give a clean and pure heart.  David knew he had let God down.  He was convicted of his sin.  He wanted to have his relationship with God restored.  He so enjoyed having a sweet relationship with God, which the sin broke.  Sin divides us from God.  It is kind of like a magnet.  When we live pure lives, we are pulled closer to God and we stick to Him.  Just like a magnet.  However if you flip a magnet over, it pushes itself away from the other.  That pushing is like how sin pushes away from God.

How about you?  Is there some sin in your life that needs to be confessed?  Spend some times with God and confess it and ask Him to cleanse and restore you.  That is God’s desire.

Have you accepted God’s gift of salvation?  When you do, your sins will be forgiven…all of your sins, forever and ever.  David asked God to wash him.  God washes us with the blood of Jesus.  His blood purifies us and makes us whiter than snow in the eyes of God.  God so wants to do that for you.  He has done everything and all you have to do is accept His free gift.  Make today the day you do that!

Dear Jesus, thank you for dying for my sins.  I confess my transgressions, my sins before you.  You are all knowing and know what I have done.  Please help to live a pure life, a Holy life.  When I sin and then confess that sin, please restore to me a close walk with You.  Thank you for all that You have done.  I just worship You now.  Amen.

The Mighty One

Psalm 50:1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, has spoken, And summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

The sun will not rise or set if God does not do it.  The Might One causes the earth to spin.  The Mighty One causes the earth to stay at just the right distance to the sun, so it neither too hot nor too cold.  The Mighty One makes sure that we have air to breath.  The Mighty One takes what we breath out, carbon dioxide, it helps trees to grow so that they can provide the oxygen we need to breath.  The Mighty One, God, does all of this and more.

Yet, somehow we doubt if He can help us in our times of trouble.  We doubt if He knows about us.  Well the Mighty One knows all about you.  He has a special name for you, that only He knows.  He knows your thoughts, your wants and desires.  He knows all of your sins.  He knows when your end will come.  God knows you better than you know yourself.  He is the Mighty One, the sustainer of His creation.  He is also the Might One who loves you.  He is the one that proved His love on the cross.  Worship Him!

Oh Mighty God, how amazing are You.  You are over all of creation, through out the universe.  And yet You still intimately know me.  You know all about me and You still love me.  Thank you Jesus.  Forgive for my sins and I confess what You already know.  Please help me to overcome them.  Thank You Lord Jesus!

Redemption

Psalm 49:7-8
7 No man can by any means redeem his brother Or give to God a ransom for him 8 For the redemption of his soul is costly, And he should cease trying forever.

Bill Gates is on pace to be the world’s first trillionaire in about 20 years.  It is hard to imagine how much money that is.  However, that amount does not even scratch the surface for how much it would cost to redeem ones soul.  In fact no amount of money can redeem your soul.  Verse 8 says that people should not even try to come up with the money to do that.

The only way ones soul can be redeemed is by blood being shed.  Not any ordinary blood, but the blood of a righteous man.  Only one man who has ever lived qualifies.  His name is Jesus Christ.  He is/was the only perfect man in all of history.  His soul is the only that does not need to be redeemed.  With that great distinction in hand, He made an investment for eternity.  He allowed His blood to be shed, in order that we might be redeemed.  God accepted His sacrifice and raised Him back from the dead.  When we accept Jesus as our savior, God applied Jesus’ blood and redeems our soul.  Jesus and His blood are our only hope to live forever in Heaven.

Have you been redeemed by the blood of Jesus?  Has your soul been redeemed?  If not, make today the day.  Call out to Him and ask Him to redeem you.  To save you from the consequences of your sin.  For those who do not have their soul redeemed, their sins forgiven, will spend eternity in Hell apart from God.  I do not want that for you.  Cry out to Him right now!

Dear Jesus, thank you for shedding Your blood for me.  It was a cost that I could never pay on my own.  I thank you that Your love for me drove You to the cross.  I thank you for not leaving us without hope.  I pray for those who read this, who do not know you as their savior.  I pray that today would be the day they would be saved.  Today would be the day or their redemption.  Amen.

Our Guide in life

Psalm 48:14 For such is God, Our God forever and ever; He will guide us until death.

As Christians, we can trust God, our Great Shepherd, to guide us through life.  He leads us on the paths we should go.  He leads us away from snares and traps.  He knows the way through the minefield of life.  He will guide us until He calls us home.

Be aware though, the way God leads us is not always easy.  The path is not easy.  There will be struggles.  God does not promise an easy way.  He promises that He will be with us and that He will lead us down the path.  The trials and tough times are for our best and that is why He allows them.  God uses them to stretch us and grow us.  During the tough times, know God is near.  During the good times, know that God is near.

God, thank you for guiding me in life.  Thank you for not leaving me alone on the path.  Thank you for going through the hard times with me.  You are an awesome God!  Amen.

Good

Mark 10:18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone

I just heard a speaker talk about a “Good Atheist” and a “Good Christian” at my last Bible study.  The context was that they both agree that Christianity rides or falls based on the resurrection.  Which is true, but it made me think.  Is there such a thing as a “Good Atheist”?  Which led me to think, is there such a thing as a “Good Christian”?  I asked that to my group and somebodies reply was something like “What is your standard of good?”.  What is our standard of good or better yet who is?

I believe that our standard is God.  That is what Jesus is said in the verse above.  By that standard I do not believe anyone is good.  I know I am not.  I am a dirty rotten sinner, deserving eternal punishment.  There is no such thing in God’s book as “good enough”.  God does not grade on a curve.  The Bible says that ALL have fallen short of God’s glory.  None of us measure up to Him.  My only hope is the goodness of God.  Your only hope is the goodness of God.

Jesus came and died for our sins.  His blood paid the penalty of our sins.  He died in our place, that we might live.  That we might be forgiven.  It costs us nothing, but it cost Him His life.  His offer of forgiveness is a free gift, we just need to accept it.  When we do, God looks at us and applies Christ’s life to ours.  His righteousness becomes our righteousness.  This is the only way for us to be considered good and it is all God’s doing, not mine nor yours.  Thanks be to God!

Sing Praises

Psalm 47:6-7
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises; Sing praises to our King, sing praises. 7 For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with a skillful psalm.

Sing praises to God!  For God is worthy of our praise, worship and adoration.  He is our creator.  He is our sustainer.  He is our King.  He is our Father.  He is our Savior.  He is our Redeemer.  He is our all and all!  Sing praises to Him!

We are supposed to do it with a skillful psalm.  To me that means we need to take time and think through our praised of Him.  We need to use the talent God has given us, to praise Him.  A skill is something we need to work at to develop.  Praising God should be something we work at, in order to get better at it.  Keep working to learn about Him.  Keep working to grow closer to Him.  Spend time with Him honing your praise of Him.

Oh God, I sing your praises.  How great thou art!  How amazing are you!  How wonderful are you!  How amazing is your love and grace.  To you, Oh God be the glory forever and ever.  Holy, Holy, Holy are you Lord, God Almighty!  You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!  May my song forever be one of worship of you!  Amen.

A Very Present Help

  1. Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

When trouble hits, trust in God.  He will protect you and keep you safe.  God is a good Father, He protects His children.  He hides us and holds us really tight.  There is nothing like the hug of our Father.  God is always there.

He is a very present help.  Even when it seems that if God is not there, trust me He is.  A very present help means on going, continually there help.  There is never a time when we are not in His hands.  Trust in God and run to Him.

Later the Psalmist will tell us to be still and know that He is God.  Knowing who God is and trusting Him allows us to sit quietly before Him.  Having His peace will us calm and be able to be still before Him.  Knowing who God is, brings this peace upon us.  Do not worry about this world.  The worst this world can do to you is kill you, but if you are saved by Jesus, all that means is you will go to be with Him.  Jesus said to not fear those who can end our lives, but to fear God who can both end our lives here and condemn us to hell.  Be still and take refuge in God!

Father, I thank You so much that You love me and protect me.  I thank You for Your peace, which passes all understanding.  I thank You for always being there for me.  Help me to not fear this world, but to fear You.  In Jesus name, Amen.

The Forever King

Psalm 45:2 You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever.

This Psalm is ultimately about Jesus and His Bride, the church.  The marriage will happen in heaven  after the rapture, during the tribulation.  Jesus is the most fairest of all.  Nobody matches His beauty.  Nobody matches His goodness.  Nobody is His match.

Jesus is blessed forever.  He will reign forever and ever.  His kingdom will know no end.  No one will be able to stand up to it.  Great is King Jesus.  What a day it will be, when He take His throne.

Will you be at the wedding?  If you want to be part of His bride, you need to be saved by Him.  Jesus came the first time and died a sacrificial death for our sins.  His blood was shed to pay the cost of our sins.  He paid our ransom.  Confess your sins to Him.  Ask Him to save you and make you a part of His bride.

Oh Jesus, we so look forward to Your return.  To our wedding with You in heaven.  Great are You Oh Lord.  Thank You for loving me.  Amen.
