4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet: 6 ‘AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’
When the Wiseman come looking for the Messiah, Herod calls for the Chief Priests and Scribes. He asks them where the Christ was to be born. Without hesitation, they cite the prophet Micah, saying that He was to be born in Bethlehem. I do not find it interesting that they knew this off the top of their head. What is interesting is what they do not do. They do not get up running to find the child. The long waited Messiah has come and they do not leave town. How sad! They just repeat the facts ho hum and they totally miss the big moment.
Be careful that you do not know the story so well that you miss the Christ child. Pause and think it through. Remember how amazing the fact is that Jesus came to Earth. The Son of God left heaven to be born in dirty, smelly barn. Do not be too busy to run to find Him!
