Micah 5:2 “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”
The town of Bethlehem was David’s hometown. It was there he grew up and shepherded his father’s sheep. God’s plan was for another King to be born there as well. Micah had the privilege of foretelling that Jesus would be born there as well. How fitting, that He would be born in the town of His ancestor, King David.
Some people never thought a great king would be born in a such a little town. The wise men, as they were seeking to find Him, stopped in Jerusalem. For surely they thought a king would be born in the great city. They were wrong. Micah had correctly predicted it hundreds of years before.
Micah also tells us that Jesus has been around forever, from the days of eternity. John 1 tells us “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning”. Jesus is God and has always been God and will forever be God. What love it took, to give up His spot in Heaven to come be born in a small town for you and me. What love and humility! It’s all part of the Christmas Story.
