Jeremiah 23:5 “The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.
The prophet Jeremiah, known as the weeping prophet, came after Isaiah. Jeremiah served the kings of Judah, right up through when Jerusalem was conqueredd by King Nebuchadnezzar. Many wicked kings reigned under his watch. Yet, he was able to look forward to day when God would raise up a righteous heir to David’s throne. One who would do what is right and just in the eye’s of God. We know this heir to be none other than the Lord Jesus. He is our hope.
We would look forward to the day that Jesus returns and reigns. We hope for that day. Our souls cry out for justice to be served to the wicked, forgetting that compared to a Holy and perfect God, we are all wicked. We deserve justice. We deserve eternal punishment. But the righteous branch took our punishment. God raised Him up to die for our sins and then be raised from the grave. Because of that when we place our hope and faith in Jesus we are saved and we will live under the reign of this Righteous Branch.
The Christmas story is full of hope, because of Jesus!
