Luke 15:20b But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
I saw a video yesterday that really disturbed me, I am not going to link to it because I do not think people should watch it. It has to do with a mother kicking her little son out of the house for picking the wrong presidential candidate in a mock election at school. She packed his suitcase and pushed a sobbing boy out the door yelling at him, while he is just sobbing uncontrollable. It just horrible and really disgusts me.
But God brought to mind the parable of the Prodigal Son and most importantly the end. The son basically tells his dad that he’s dead to him and wants his inheritance. He then goes to a far country and blows through all of the money. When he is finally broke, he has to get a job feeding pigs, of whom he is jealous because the boy has nothing to eat. He finally realizes how stupid he was and how great his father is to him. He gets up and goes home practicing an apology, but little known to him, the father never stopped looking or waiting for him. When he sees his son, way off, he gets up and runs and hugs him.
God is the Father in this story. When we make mistakes, He’s quick to forgive, running to us. He does not push His children away to fend for themselves, instead He embraces them and loves them. He pursues us.
I’m so glad God is who He is!
